What is a visa?

A visa is a travel document issued by the Bolivian Consulates and Embassies abroad that allows foreign citizens to enter Bolivia in order to stay for a certain period of time.

Depending on the purpose of the trip to Bolivia, the following visas may be granted:

 Tourist Visa

The Tourist Visa is the permit that authorizes foreigners to enter the country to stay in Bolivian territory for the purpose of rest or recreation.

For the exoneration and extension of visas to enter Bolivian territory, the countries are classified as follows:

GROUP I

Persons of nationality of the countries included in Group I, DO NOT REQUIRE an entry visa for tourism, to visit Bolivian territory.

GROUP II

Persons of nationality of the countries included in Group II, REQUIRE an entry visa for tourism, to visit Bolivian territory.

GROUP III

Persons of nationality of the countries included in Group III, REQUIRE an entry visa to enter Bolivian territory as a tourist, after consultation with the Consular Office that corresponds to the Directorate General of Migration (DIGEMIG) of Bolivia.

The requirements must be presented only by foreign citizens included in GROUPS II and III.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Passport with a minimum validity of six (6) months.
  • Visa application affidavit form.
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate if visiting high-risk endemic areas.
  • Travel itinerary or return tickets.
  • Invitation letter from a person with legal domicile in Bolivia registered and authorized by the General Direction of Migration (DIGEMIG) or lodging reservation.
  • Economic solvency accredited by bank statement and/or credit card.
  • Current 4 x 4 photograph (red background).
  • Resolution of the General Direction of Migration (DIGEMIG) of authorization to enter Bolivian territory (for foreigners from countries included in GROUP III).

Visa for a Specific Purpose

The Visa for a Specific Purpose is a permit for foreigners to enter the country in order to stay in Bolivian territory for different reasons: work, temporary work, volunteering, academic exchange work, religious, health, family, for purposes other than tourism.

The validity of the Visa of Determined Purpose varies depending on the reason for the stay in Bolivian territory.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Visa application affidavit form (applicable to all types of visas).
  • Passport valid for at least 6 months (applicable to all types of visas).
  • Document accrediting the activity to be carried out in Bolivian territory (applicable to all types of visas).
  • Invitation letter from the entity or company with supporting documentation in the corresponding cases, except for temporary work, health and family.
  • Police, criminal or judicial record certificate from the country of origin or residence, only for those over 16 years of age (applicable to all types of visas).
  • Economic solvency accredited by bank statement and/or credit card, except for religious and family reasons.
  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate if visiting high-risk endemic areas (applicable to all types of visas).
  • Current 4×4 photograph (red background).

Student Visa

This is the authorization for foreigners to enter the country for the purpose of studying at the primary secondary level and in institutions of higher education and professional training.

It is valid for up to 60 days and enables to process the temporary stay of the student for 1 year before the General Direction of Migration (DIGEMIG), renewable until the completion of their studies.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Visa Application Affidavit Form.
  • Passport with a minimum validity of 6 months.
  • Any of the following documents that accredit the studies that must be previously legalized by the corresponding Consular Office: certificate of studies, high school diploma, bachelor’s degree or postgraduate degree, report card or transcript of grades.
  • Police, criminal or judicial record certificate from the country of origin or last residence (does not apply to minors under 16 years of age).
  • Certificate of vaccination against yellow fever if visiting high-risk endemic areas.
  • Current photograph (4×4 red background).

Multiple Visa

The Multiple Visa authorizes the entry and exit of the country on a constant basis to foreigners in order to carry out investment and business activities. It is valid for 1 year with stay in Bolivian territory for periods not longer than 90 uninterrupted days.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Visa application affidavit form.
  • Passport valid for at least six (6) months.
  • Legalized documentation of incorporation of the company he/she represents in his/her country of origin or residence.
  • Legalized photocopy of the Tax Identification Number NIT or original electronic certification in case the company has been incorporated in Bolivian territory.
  • Current certificate of police, criminal or judicial record of the country of origin or residence, or certificate issued by INTERPOL.
  • Certificate of vaccination against yellow fever if visiting high-risk endemic areas.
  • Current 4 x 4 photograph (red background).

Humanitarian Visa

The Humanitarian Visa is the authorization for foreigners to enter the country to stay in Bolivian territory for up to 30 days if they can demonstrate the following humanitarian reasons:

  1. Need of international protection protected by the principle of non-refoulement.
  2. Victim of human trafficking and smuggling or other forms of exploitation.
  3. Accompanying a sick person who requires medical treatment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Visa application affidavit form.
  • Documentary proof of the situation for which a humanitarian visa is required.
  • Passport valid for at least 6 months.
  • Certificate of vaccination against yellow fever if visiting high-risk endemic areas.
  • Current photograph.

Victim of human trafficking or migrant smuggling or other forms of exploitation.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Form of Affidavit of request for temporary stay, obtained from the website of the General Directorate of Migration.
  • Passport or national identity card or any other document that proves your identity.
  • Any document (photographic, news or other) that proves that you are a victim of human trafficking or migrant smuggling.
  • Current photograph

COST Consular fee

Accompanying a sick person requiring medical treatment.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Affidavit form for requesting temporary stay obtained from the website of the General Directorate of Migration (DIGEMIG).
  • Passport valid for at least 6 months.
  • Certificate of vaccination against yellow fever if visiting high risk endemic areas.
  • Medical Certificate that certifies that the sick person you are going to accompany requires it.
  • Current photograph (4×4 red background)

COST Consular fee

Courtesy Visa

The Courtesy Visa is the permission to enter Bolivian territory, granted to high-ranking State and Government officials, international organizations, cultural and religious personalities, in order to carry out activities of national interest.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Invitation issued by a Bolivian public institution, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Transit Visa

The Transit Visa is granted to all foreign citizens who are in transit in our territory and is valid for up to 15 days.

* The following will be considered transit travelers: captains, pilots and crew members of ships or aircrafts.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Visa application affidavit form.
  • Passport valid for at least 6 months.
  • Tickets proving that your final destination is a third country.
